Congratulations! You’ve accepted the invite to be a bridesmaid for your close friend or family member. Being asked to be a bridesmaid or Maid of Honor is certainly flattering and speaks to the special bond you share with the bride to be. But it also comes with some responsibilities. One of the most important of these is planning the bridal shower.
As anyone who has ever planned any type of event, large or small, planning can be a lot of work and, if you are not careful, quite expensive.
So how do you meet the high expectations for the shower and still not blow the budget? It can seem like an impossible task but here are a few tips to throw an amazing party without breaking the bank.
Use Hobnob Invites
This incredible app allows you to create amazing invitations that are sent electronically. This app does far more than save on the hassle and costs of traditional mailed invitations!
This app allows your guests to RSVP instantly, which they are far more likely to do because it is so easy! All of your guests will receive a text one hour before the start of the bridal shower with directions and any changes or notes you would like to include.
Not only are you able to save the planet by not using paper, your guests will appreciate how easy you have made it for them to RSVP and add to their social calendar. A win/win!
Find a Free Venue
This is not nearly as daunting as it seems. There are literally tons of private and public venues that would love the opportunity to host your party.
Elks, The Moose, AmVets, VFW, and American Legions all have banquet and meeting rooms large or small. These are often available for very small groups or events at no cost depending on the day of the week. Often times, these clubs are happy to provide the space simply for the opportunity to provide drinks.
While many times these clubs will not compare to hotels and other venues in terms of curbside appeal, you will be surprised at how nice many of them are inside.
By the way, don’t limit yourself to just these choices. Hotels, Bars, Clubs, and Restaurants often have meeting spaces that go unused. Always ask for a room for free. You are bringing significant business to their establishment. You will be surprised what aggressive businesses are willing to offer for that.
Make a Signature Cocktail
Instead of buying a bunch of different types of alcohol and mixers try making a signature cocktail for the event. Think of a drink to commemorate the bride and groom? Either way, by creating a signature cocktail you only need the ingredients for that drink and can make pitchers of it. If you feel you need more variety, get some wine or soda.
Bring a Dish
Skip the catering and do it yourself. Ask all attendees to bring a dish with them. You may not have this option with every venue so make sure you factor this cost into the budget if the free venue requires you to allow them to cater your party.
Check out this app for tons of money saving and DIY ideas! From décor to desserts, this app will provide ideas and inspiration of how to throw an amazing bridal shower on a shoestring budget.
Skip The Prizes
No one really needs those little soaps and trinkets. Besides, the fun part is the game, right? So, just play the game. It’s not necessary for everything to have a prize attached to it, and I’m sure everyone will have just as much fun without it. If you still feel the need to provide a prize, wrap up some cookies for the winners of the bridal shower games.
Remember What This Is Really About
Remember the scene in “Charlie Brown’s Christmas Story” when Linus took center stage to explain that Christmas wasn’t about the tree and gifts? Neither is the bridal shower.
This is about friendship fun. It is about creating memories.
If you plan the event and give it your all, even if something goes wrong, no one will be angry. It’s all about the time you get to spend together, not fancy prizes and food. So take a deep breath, exhale, and focus on the fun.
