The history of the wedding veil?

The veil is a traditional bridal accessory. It can be the perfect addition to set off a fabulous gown. And, if you’re a fan of pictures where the bride and groom are kissing under the veil, well, it’s an absolute must.

The history of the wedding veil varies. Most sites trace its roots back to Rome, where a bride used to walk down the aisle with a veil over her face in order to disguise herself from any evil spirits who wanted to thwart her happiness. Veils went out of style for some time and only became a beloved accessory again after Queen Victoria's wedding in 1840.

Do you have to wear a wedding veil?

Absolutely not!

Just as there is no requirement for the bride to wear a white dress the choice is completely up to you.

You simply may not like the idea of wearing a blusher. Some brides find them somewhat unruly -- especially if you're getting married at the beach or other windy locale -- and can't wait to take them off after pictures or before they hit the dance floor!

Others choose not to wear a veil because, well, they’re often quite expensive, ranging in price from $200 to $1,000+!

The bottom line is that a wedding veil is a traditional item but the choice to follow it is completely up to you. On your wedding day you’ll want to feel like the best version of yourself and if that doesn’t include a veil, don’t sweat it!
